Presidential Candidates Say the Darndest Things

Just minutes ago on on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Delaware) claimed his vote for the 2002 “Joint Resolution to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq” was actually a vote to prevent a war rather than to start one. I have to give Biden some credit: his composure was amazing. I couldn’t have said something like that with a straight face.

The Disappearing Post Trick

This afternoon I put up a post angrily criticizing a woman in my area for certain remarks she made to the local media. Earlier this week she narrowly escaped being killed in a terrible car crash that claimed the lives of two others. She believes she survived the accident because God has a special plan for her. My initial reaction was one of anger, because her remarks implied that the people who died in the accident were less special than she. Jerry Chandler responded to my diatribe in a very thoughtful way and led me to reconsider. I decided I could not, in good conscience, leave the post up. Legendary songwriter Ray Evans has died. Evans, together with his longtime songwriting partner Jay Livingston, composed enduring tunes including “Silver Bells,” “Mona Lisa,” and “Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera).”

Oh, yeah, and he graduated from high school with my late grandfather. (more…)
