Beautiful Jeannie: Soon-to-Be Published Author
My girlfriend, the lovely Jeannie, is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Social Work with an eye on possibly getting a Ph.D. and pursuing a career in academia. She advanced one step closer to that ultimate goal by getting an article accepted for publication.
Beautiful Jeannie wrote a very insightful analysis of a book entitled The Careless Society. It was an assignment for one of her classes, and her professor was so impressed he suggested that Jeannie submit it to Social Work, the journal of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). The NASW is a very significant and influential organization within the social work field. And they know quality writing when they see it! Jeannie’s article has been accepted for publication. I will alert you all when we know the issue in which it will see print.
Jeannie: I am so very proud of you, my love. But completely and utterly not surprised.

Bill, not that she doesn’t already know this, but that’s freakin’ HUGE. My ex-girlfriend used to get Social Work, she wanted to be a social worker after college. Damn, that’s impressive. When it comes out, though, just keep the cat away from it.

Congratulations! That’s awesome.
Unless the papaer is an analysis of the “A Smart Move” thread at Peter David’s blog in which case we may our names immortalized in the Geek Hall Of Fame.

Jeannie, in case you’re reading this over Bill’s shoulder, I KNOW you’re worth more than a couple quarters. And I’m not just saying that because now that you’re published you might have some kind of connections that might ever stop anything of mine from getting published.
And Bill Mulligan–you mean our names aren’t already there?

Congratulations to Jeannie. That’s an awesome thing to have happen and a hell of a step up towards her career goals. Has she stopped floating on the ceiling yet?
Bill Mulligan, don’t go there. What a historical moment to be involved in. We actually made a PAD thread so messed up that he turned into into the first thread (that I know of) that he felt the need to shut down and mildly chastise over.

Nope. We do not have the distinction of being the first. A while back PAD shut down a thread because “Bladestar” was arguing with a recently widowed woman about a commercial using death as a gag. She didn’t think it was funny, but he did and refused to let up unless she acknowledged his right to laugh at it. “Bladestar” wouldn’t let it go despite repeated requests from PAD that he do so. Thus, PAD shut down the thread.
BTW, I wrote an e-mail apologizing to PAD about the whole “Smart Move” thread mess. He was very gracious about it, said it was over and done with, and suggested that I not dwell on it.
While I’m not sure the ends justify the means — have y’all noticed that we haven’t heard from Mike Leung in a bit? Maybe, just maybe, we drove him away. I wouldn’t cry if that turns out to be the result.

Yeah, I did the same basic kind of email. Apologized and promised to work at being a better guest in his house in the future.
He was pretty nice about it in his response.

Thanks for the support and the congrats
I am pretty excited about it and thinking it will look good on an application to a PhD program, something I hope to pursue in the not-too-distant future!
Katie was totally unimpressed. She didn’t see that it had anything to do with her, therefore it couldn’t be at all important….

Yeah, I tried sending a message too, but the message didn’t go through. But then, I also tried posting here, so I don’t know if maybe I was just too tired or what the story is.
And Mad Malignant Mike once again surfaces. He must be half troll, half pitbull, because once he gets his teeth in something, he just. Does. Not. Let. Go.
